Whole Home Water Filtration for Windsor & Essex County

Aerus of Windsor - Origins F100V Water Filter.jpg

A whole home water filter treats water at the point it enters your house — before it reaches any tap, showerhead, or appliance. Everything downstream benefits: the kitchen sink, the shower, the washing machine, the ice maker, the dishwasher. This matters more than most people expect, because the contaminants in your municipal or well water don't just affect what you drink. They affect what you bathe in, what touches your skin, and how long your appliances last.

Windsor's municipal water is treated with chlorine before it reaches your home. That chlorine does its job in the distribution system, but by the time it arrives at your tap it's a residual you don't need — one that dries skin, fades laundry, and produces a taste and smell that many households find unpleasant. Well water in rural Essex County brings different challenges: sediment, organic compounds, and the kind of broad-spectrum contamination that a single under-sink filter can't address.

Whole home filtration handles both situations by intercepting the problem at the source.

Aerus Whole Home Filtration Systems

We carry three Aerus whole home filtration systems, each designed for a different range of water quality issues.

  • F100
The F100 is a point-of-entry carbon filter designed to remove chlorine and improve the taste and smell of municipal water throughout the home. It's the right fit for households on city water where the primary concern is the chlorine residual and its effects on taste, odour, skin dryness, and laundry fading. The F100 treats all the water entering the house, so every tap and fixture benefits from the same improvement.

  • F100V
The F100V builds on the F100's carbon filtration with the addition of a catalytic media layer that neutralizes odours — particularly hydrogen sulphide (rotten-egg smell) that can show up in certain municipal and well water supplies. If your water smells fine most of the year but develops a noticeable odour seasonally, or if hydrogen sulphide is a persistent issue, the F100V addresses both the cause and the symptom.

  • F150V
The F150V is the broadest-spectrum whole home filter in the Aerus line. It handles a wider range of water quality problems beyond chlorine and odour — suitable for homes where testing reveals multiple issues that need attention at the point of entry. For rural properties with complex water chemistry, or for municipal-supply homes where the concerns go beyond taste and smell, the F150V provides a more thorough first line of treatment.

When Whole Home Filtration Makes Sense

Not every home needs a whole home system. If your concern is limited to what you drink and cook with, an under-sink reverse osmosis system handles that more directly and at lower cost. But when the water quality issue extends beyond the kitchen tap, a point-of-entry filter becomes the practical answer.

The most common situations where we recommend whole home filtration:

Chlorine sensitivity. If you notice dry skin or irritation after showers, if your laundry colours fade faster than they should, or if the water has a swimming-pool taste, whole home carbon filtration addresses the cause at every outlet in the house — not just one tap.

Odour issues. Hydrogen sulphide, organic matter, and certain well water conditions produce smells that are unpleasant throughout the home. An under-sink filter only helps at the kitchen sink. A whole home system eliminates the odour from every tap and fixture.

Multiple contaminants. Homes on well water in Essex County often deal with several concerns at once — chlorine or chloramine from municipal treatment, sediment from aging pipes, and organic compounds from the local geology. Whole home filtration serves as the first stage in a multi-stage treatment approach, protecting both the household and any downstream equipment like water softeners or RO systems.

Appliance protection. Water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, and ice makers all last longer when they're running on filtered water. Chlorine degrades rubber seals. Sediment clogs valves and spray jets. The savings on appliance repair and replacement over a decade often justify the system on their own.

Pairing Whole Home Filtration With Other Systems

Whole home filtration frequently works alongside other treatment equipment rather than replacing it. A common setup in Windsor-Essex homes:

A whole home carbon filter at the point of entry removes chlorine and sediment. A water softener or conditioner downstream addresses hardness. An under-sink reverse osmosis system at the kitchen tap provides purified drinking water. Each component handles what it's designed for, and the sequence protects each piece of equipment from the contaminants that would compromise it.

For homes with iron or contaminant concerns, whole home filtration may be part of a broader system that includes targeted media for specific contaminants. The configuration depends on what the water test shows — which is why we always start there.

Schedule Your Free Water Test

A free in-home water test tells us exactly what's in your water and whether whole home filtration is the right approach — alone or in combination with other treatment. We test at your tap, walk through the results the same day, and recommend only what the water chemistry calls for.

Contact us to book a test or visit our showroom on Tecumseh Rd E to see the filtration systems in person. We've been installing and servicing whole home water filtration for Windsor-Essex households since 2006.
