Book Your Free In-Home Water Test in Windsor & Essex County

Most people in Windsor & Essex County Ontario have never had their water tested. They're drinking it, cooking with it, bathing in it — and they have no idea what's actually in it. A free in-home water test from Aerus of Windsor changes that in about 30 minutes, at your own tap, with results you can understand the same day.
No samples to mail. No waiting on a lab. No charge.
What the Test Covers — and Why It Matters
We test for the parameters that are most relevant to health and home plumbing in this region:
Hardness — Windsor-Essex water is notably hard. Hard water leaves scale on fixtures, reduces the effectiveness of soap, and shortens the life of appliances and water heaters. Most households in the area have this to some degree.
Iron and manganess — Orange or brown staining in sinks, toilets, and laundry is almost always iron. A metallic taste points the same direction. Both iron and manganese are common in well water across rural Essex County, and both are treatable once we know the levels involved.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) — A combined measure of everything dissolved in your water. Elevated TDS often correlates with taste issues and visible scale buildup, and it can signal that other contaminants are present in meaningful amounts.
Water pH — Water that's too acidic corrodes pipes and fixtures over time, gradually introducing metals into what you drink. Too alkaline, and you'll notice a bitter taste or mineral deposits. Either way, it's worth knowing.
Chlorine — Municipal water in the Windsor area is treated with chlorine. Some residual chlorine at the tap is normal, but elevated levels affect taste, odour, and for some people, skin sensitivity. We measure what's coming out of your faucet, not just what left the treatment plant.
PFAS/PFOS — Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances have been found in Great Lakes source water and in groundwater across Ontario. Agricultural activity in Essex County is one contributing factor. Municipal treatment reduces but does not fully eliminate PFAS. Well water users near farmland have additional reason to check.
Bacteria (well water) — Private well water is not treated or monitored by any municipal system. Coliform bacteria and E. coli can enter wells through surface water, aging casing, or nearby agricultural activity. For well-water households, this is the most important thing to know — and the only way to know it is to test.
How It Works
Step 1 — Call or book online. We schedule a time that works for you. We serve Windsor and all of Essex County, including Kingsville, Leamington, Amherstburg, and Essex.
Step 2 — We come to you. A trained technician arrives at your home and tests the water right at your tap. Testing at the tap reflects what you're actually drinking and cooking with — not what the water looked like somewhere upstream.
Step 3 — You get results on the spot. We go through every reading with you in plain language. If hardness is elevated, we show you the number and explain what it means in practice. If iron is present, we explain the likely source. No report arrives in the mail three weeks later with no one to interpret it.
Step 4 — We explain your options. If your water looks fine, we tell you that and you're done. If there's something worth addressing, we walk through the appropriate water purification options — whether that's an under-sink reverse osmosis unit, a whole house conditioner, a targeted iron filter, or a PFAS-specific system. There's no obligation to move forward with anything.
No Obligation. No Pressure. Just Information.
This is where people sometimes hesitate: they assume booking a free test means agreeing to a sales call. It doesn't. We test because it's the right first step for anyone thinking about their water quality — and because we don't recommend systems without knowing what's actually in the water. Prescribing a solution without a test isn't something we do.
If your water is in good shape, we'd rather tell you that than sell you something you don't need. That approach is why Windsor-Essex families have been calling us since 2006.
Who Should Book a Test
- Homeowners on municipal water who've noticed a change in taste, smell, or the way water feels
- Households on private well water in Essex County — especially near agricultural land or if the well hasn't been tested in more than a year
- Anyone concerned about PFAS or forever chemicals in their water supply
- Families with infants or immunocompromised members who want documented water quality information
- Homeowners before or after any water treatment purchase — test first, so you know the solution matches the problem

Frequently Asked Questions
What do you test for?
Our standard free in-home test checks for hardness, iron, manganese, total dissolved solids, pH, chlorine (for municipal water), PFAS/PFOS, and bacteria (for well water). These cover the parameters most relevant to health and home plumbing in the Windsor-Essex area. Every result is explained in person at the time of the visit.
Is it really free?
Yes. No charge and no obligation. We test your water, walk through the results with you, and let you decide what — if anything — you'd like to do about what we find. If your water looks good, we tell you that. The test doesn't cost you anything and doesn't commit you to anything.
How long does it take?
About 30 minutes for most households. That includes the testing at the tap and a walkthrough of every result. If there are questions to work through or a more complex situation — particularly with well water — it may run a little longer. We don't rush the conversation.
What happens after the test?
If your water is fine, you have peace of mind and we're on our way. If there are issues, we explain what they mean and describe the treatment options that fit your specific situation — whether that's a simple under-sink filter or a more involved whole house system. You decide if and when to move forward. There's no follow-up pressure and no obligation to purchase.
